Emanuela Bellis
"… the hurdy gurdy
is a world of varnished wood,
a musical vessel of cotton
and gut. It transports music
that comes from afar
and enables the legs
to dance frantically".

From a solid, classic setting, she
took up studying piano at age four and came into contact with the folk world by
chance, during a trip that took her right outside her door, in near Biella where
an animated festival of a folk group, I Refolè, takes place… and it was love at
first sight with the hurdy gurdy: the shape of a pirate ship galley, the
uniqueness of the sound and technique, the hypnotic aura and a little fairytale
like, an immense passion that lives on unchanged still today.
She began her study of the hurdy gurdy at 17 years old, collaborating instantly
with musical groups and people that stand out in the panorama of traditional
Piemontese music: Ombra Gaja, Ariondassa, Grand Orchestre des Alpes, to name a
few, with whom she participates at the main exhibitions of the field also at an
international level (France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland).
The sister agreement of Ariondassa with the Catalan group El Pont d'Arcalis
brings the realization of the first CD.
Among the prestigious collaboration, there is the one from 2003 with the singer
Ranzie Mensah (Princess of the Fanti people of Ghana) at "Niagara", a concert
dedicated to water.
She is also part of the theatrical group Teatralgine of Alessandria.
From the meeting with Laura Conti and Maurizio Verna is born "Laura Conti and
Eivador", a group of noteworthy potential and a source of great satisfaction for
the young musician that discovered a new world of folk, fresh and modern also
with respect to the tradition.
